The event was at the Kroc centers back lot on 117th street. Everyone was to set up our normally indoor equipment outside. Which we have all done before with no problem, but Saturday the wind became the problem. The photo booth backdrop curtains were all over the place. A guest would be in the booth and then be covered by the curtain or it would be blown out of the way so part of the background was black and the other half was green from the grass on the slight hill behind them. So your probably thinking just attach the backdrop to the frame, at least thats what the customer wanted. Luckily I took some sailing lessons a few years ago and understand the power of the wind and what happens when you put out a sail or in this case a curtain. It would have took the curtains, tent, and photo booth to at least the next neighborhood. After explaining the potential problems to customer, she agreed to not having a backdrop as long as we still took high quality photos.
At least I was not the only one having problems with the wind. The up and smoke comes from the food vendor. They were using the sterno candles to keep the food warm. So add the flames, the wind, and plastic table clothes and you get a nice little fire. A water hose placed close by made it a non event.
